Keep your data secure at every stage of your project
Ensure that all computer hard drives (and other devices such as USB keys and flash drives) are encrypted to prevent unauthorized access to information. See guidance by UBC IT for this functionality.
Use a secure environment to share selected research data with individuals and/or groups. Free cloud services such as Dropbox and Google Drive are not recommended and many ethics boards and granting agencies prohibit them from research data sharing or storage.
Moreover, please see our pages for Anonymization and De-identification of research data
UBC Policy SC14, Acceptable Use and Security of UBC Electronic Information and Systems outlines the responsibilities of members of the University community with respect to the acceptable use and security of University electronic information and the services, devices and facilities that store or transmit this information.
