Keep your data secure at every stage of your project

Ensure that all computer hard drives (and other devices such as USB keys and flash drives) are encrypted to prevent unauthorized access to information. See the guidance by UBC IT for this functionality.

Ensuring the security and privacy of research data is critical at UBC, especially when handling sensitive, identifiable, or confidential information. UBC Advanced Research Computing (ARC) provides consultation services to help researchers meet legal, ethical, and institutional data protection requirements. ARC also offers tailored guidance on privacy-impact assessments, secure file transfers, and best practices for high-risk data management in compliance with FIPPA and UBC policy.

UBC Policy SC14, Acceptable Use and Security of UBC Electronic Information and Systems, outlines the responsibilities of members of the University community for the acceptable use and security of University electronic information and the services, devices and facilities that store or transmit this information.

UBC Campus Security offers a site security assessment to help with physical access controls on the Vancouver campus.
